Be Creative Camp (BeCre) began in 2006 as an answer to the need for a “non-sporty” addition to the summer camp lineup at Butler Springs Christian Camp in Hillsboro, Ohio. There were several camps that existed for students who enjoyed playing basketball or soccer, but nothing at the time was devoted to the students who would rather doodle than dribble. BeCre was made for the dreamers, inventors, composers, illustrators, and performers. It was a way to embrace the beauty of God and art in the same breath.

A typical week of Be Creative Camp includes lots of improv, team challenges, and storytelling. It’s like a week-long murder mystery or an escape room: There’s a setup, an unfolding story, conflicts, resolutions, and of course – twists. In between the points of the ongoing story, we have photography challenges, movie sound effects challenges, and tons of opportunities to utilize the elements of the host camp.

BeCre has since expanded beyond the confines of Butler Springs. Our staff began offering weeks at Woodland Lakes Christian Camp in 2017 and at Camp Northward in 2021. In addition to those traditional summer experiences, we are working behind the scenes to develop new opportunities, including 3-day weekend experiences, and adult excursions.

BeCre was formed by Shawn Young – originally from Sardinia, OH.  Shawn graduated from Kentucky Christian University, and is currently living in Williamsburg, OH with his wife Leslie and his two children (Owen and Nora).
